A crane standing in still water, surrounded by soft light and silence

A field of listening, unfolding between voice, sound and presence

KAT Vienna is the artistic practice of Katharina Schuldner, unfolding between sound, language, object and presence. The work moves across different forms: from voice and electronic sound to installations, minimal interventions and situations placed within physical and digital space - at times unfolding as songs that move between more defined musical structure and open, experimental forms, carrying both quiet and more intense expressions.Rather than producing fixed works, the practice creates conditions in which something can emerge:
through listening, through absence, through the quiet persistence of what remains.
Some works invite attention, as in Listening Spaces, where sound becomes a moment of pause and perception.Others withdraw from it, as in Unheld Works, where objects, texts or sounds are placed without explanation, without promotion and without demand.Across all formats, the work explores what happens
when nothing is forced to resolve,
when meaning is not fixed,
and when something is allowed to exist without being held.

The work of KAT Vienna unfolds across different cycles:

  • Echoes of One – a shared listening space for voice, presence and human connection

  • The Pulse & The Breath – electronic sound cycle exploring rhythm and urban intimacy

  • Virtues Series – sound works on trust, gratitude and relational depth

  • Quiet Experiments – minimal explorations of silence and perception

  • Play Life – works emerging directly from lived experience

  • Haiko-Harfe – poetic voice and harp pieces rooted in stillness

  • Room Series – spoken word pieces on memory and emotional space

  • Element Series – sound explorations of earth, water, fire and air

  • Echo Studies – experiments between human voice and artificial intelligence

UNHELD WORKSUnheld Works gathers minimal interventions across objects, sound and digital space. These works are not presented, but placed into existing systems and left to exist on their own terms. They do not ask to be received or understood.
They remain — whether noticed or not.

The Shell (Willhaben)
A found object placed on a public marketplace platform, categorized as a toy figure and offered without context.
The work exists within a system of exchange, without fully belonging to it.
Lost Access (2026)
An installation of found keys and business cards, suspended in space.
Once connected to places, people and moments of access, they no longer point to specific functions, but to what remains when access is lost.
